This is drawn entirely in Photoshop. The foreground is drawn with 2px and 1px pencil brushes and the background is drawn with the help of `adonihs cloud brushes (thanks!).

The fractal geometry is designed by hand and with the help of a calculator. In this case I originally started from a sketch, so I actually had to reverse engineer the math out of the sketch to create a design that was a lot more accurate.

I like creating work that is mirrorable and/or reorientable to different angles and you can see the 90 degree rotation for this work here:

Wave to the Sky. Does real fractal art have to come out of a computer program? No. If the math is accurate, it can be drawn by hand either in traditional media or on the computer. *micronomicon went the extra mile to ensure not only was his creation beautiful, but mathematically accurate and conceptually mind-blowing. Two words. FREAKIN' AMAZING. ( Suggested by *Destro2k and Featured by `NatalieKelsey )

I'm a bit mind-blown at this, to be honest. Three hundred-plus hours of work? It shows! I'm agape at your perfectly accurate feathers and wings- and the repeating patterns in each. The details are stunning, and I'm absolutely agape at the overall presentation.

My favorite part, though, has to be the tiny, nearly-unnoticeable differences in each piece that separate it from the others in the pattern. Each feather has tiny breaks different from its neighbors, the insect wings all have their own unique pattern...

I'm completely floored by the dedication that went into this, and absolutely awed at the result. Bravo! I wish I could do more than just add this to my favorites. It deserves more- thank goodness a GM had the same idea!

Congratulations- you earned it! ^^

Thanks, it's certainly difficult to see the details at a scale of 1:3 - it's really intended for print. In any case I like to think that everyone can at least subconsciously observe the little things, as the eye can pick up on unnatural repetition. That's why I don't go the copy and paste route, which would also ruin the consistency in the size of the brush strokes.
