This is drawn entirely in Photoshop. The foreground is drawn with 2px and 1px pencil brushes and the background is drawn with the help of `
adonihs cloud brushes (thanks!).
The fractal geometry is designed by hand and with the help of a calculator. In this case I originally started from a sketch, so I actually had to reverse engineer the math out of the sketch to create a design that was a lot more accurate.
I like creating work that is mirrorable and/or reorientable to different angles and you can see the 90 degree rotation for this work here:

My favorite part, though, has to be the tiny, nearly-unnoticeable differences in each piece that separate it from the others in the pattern. Each feather has tiny breaks different from its neighbors, the insect wings all have their own unique pattern...
I'm completely floored by the dedication that went into this, and absolutely awed at the result. Bravo! I wish I could do more than just add this to my favorites. It deserves more- thank goodness a GM had the same idea!
